The story behind Zayas Manufacturing
A story driven by a simple passion and appreciation in seeing a well-made gun.
My name is Lou Zayas and I have run an auto transmission shop here in Orlando since 1982, repairing, rebuilding and fitting transmissions and making all sorts of precision metal parts for the transmission business. I also love guns and so when I pick up a gun I'm always amazed at the exquisite workmanship that some of these master craftsmen can deliver in their finished product.
Following a back injury about five years ago I was limited in what I could do. Luckily for me I was able to spend time working with guns and I was intrigued in how we could take a gun that was de-milled. especially the Heckler & Koch (H&K) MP5 series weapons really got my attention. The cost of an original H&K collectible weapon was very expensive, I was amazed at how affordable they were in their de-milled state and to rebuild them at a fraction of the retail price. However, to be really authentic, the quality of the rebuild had to be up to a professional standards.
As you can maybe guess, I'm a gun enthusiastic and gun builder, with a specific interest in rebuilding decommissioned and ex-military guns. This work often calls for adaptor kits and for calibration tools or mandrel kits that will help me build a gun that I can be proud of. Like most other gun building enthusiasts, I have struggled with the lack of purpose designed tools that can help me achieve a high quality result. This has lead me to set up Zayas Manufacturing and offer a small selection of custom handmade tools, dyes and adapters specifically designed for my fellow gun building enthusiasts.
Each part is hand-made here in my Orlando workshop, using precision equipment that I have access to in my garage workshop. The parts are all designed to meet the needs of the enthusiastic gun maker, so that you can in turn build your own high quality guns. The result will be a gun of a quality that you can be proud to hold up and say "I built that".
I design and manufacture only the tools that I need in my own gun building hobby. If a tool will help me build a high caliber gun then the same tool will likely help other enthusiasts as well. If you have ideas that you are willing to share, then I will be delighted to discuss them with you.
So, lets all take an extra minute to admire the next beautiful handmade gun that we hold, and applaud the craftsmanship and dedication of the person who made it.
Best Regards,
Lou.
